Cimişlia este un oraş din Republica Moldova, centrul administrativ al raionului Cimişlia. Amplasat pe malurile rului Cogîlnic, oraşul Cimişlia este situat la o distanţă de 68 km de Chișinău. Conform datelor recensămîntului din anul 2004, populaţia oraşului constituie 12858 de locuitori. Prima atestare documentară a localităţii Cimişlia datează din 1620. Datorită conlocuirii cu tătarii, denumirea localităţii a luat forma “Cimişlia” – denumirea tribului tătăresc ciumecili, care avea ca semn distinctiv o figură în formă de căuş. În timp, ciumecicili s-a transformat în Cimişlia.
