Astăzi, 23 mai 2016, aniversăm 25 ani de la revenirea oficială la denumirea istorică a statului nostru Moldova. Acum douăzeci de ani, avînd în vedere importanţa spirituală, istorică şi politico-juridică a denumirii oficiale a statului şi exprimînd dorinţa alegătorilor, cetăţeni ai R.S.S. Moldova, Sovietul suprem al Republicii Sovietice Socialiste Moldova a hotărît ca statul nostru suveran să se numească Republica Moldova (în formă prescurtată Moldova).

Prin Legea cu privire la schimbarea denumirii statului R.S.S. Moldova în Republica Moldova (23 mai 1991) ţara şi recăpătat numele istoric pe care-l poartă de secole. Este important de menţionat că nici o ţară a lumii nu a protesat faţă de această decizie a Parlamentului Moldovei.

Moldova este un nume vechi care îşi are rădăcinile în tradiţia cultural-lingvistică europeană arhaică. Nu întîmplător apelativul „Moldova” este cunoscut în Slovacia, Boemia (Muldavia, Mulda, Muldau, Moldvia), localitatea Moldautein la nord de oraşul Budweis, în Banat (oraşul Moldova pe Dunăre). Geograful A. Busching cunoaşte rîul Boemiei sub trei denumiri: Molda, Moldau şi Mulda. Toponimele/oiconimele Mold, Molde sînt cunoscute în Britania, Norvegia. În Saxonia unul din afluenţii Elbei se numeşte Mulda. În afară de oraşele Moldova, Moldova Nouă în Valahia (azi România) există multe oiconime: Moldoveni, Moldoveneşti.

Este semnificativ că cel mat înalt vîrf al Carpaţilor Meridionali este Moldovanul (2 544 m), aflat pe un teritoriu care nu a intrat în componenţa Moldovei istorice.

Cele mai vechi menţiuni ale statului Moldova şi moldovenilor sînt atestate în documentele cancelariei Ungariei din 20 martie 1360 „Terra Moldavanae” şi din 2 februarie 1365 – „Terra Moldvana...”

Prima cronică străină care menţionează „Terra Moldaviae” aparţine lui Ioan Kukullo (sfîrşitul secolului al XIV-lea). Titlul „Dux Moldaviensis” este fixat în actele curiei papale din 1370, 1371, 1372, în tratatul dintre Carol al IV-lea de Luxemburg şi regele Ungariei Ludovic I de Anjou, Ţara Moldovei are titlul de „Wayvodatus Moldavia”.

În prima gramotă păstrată din 1384 domnul Moldovei are titlul „Dux Terre Moldaviae”. În majoritatea absolută a documentelor Moldovei domnitorii ei au titlul de „gospodar al Ţării Moldovei”.

	No, if you refer to the mountain peak, the name is not "Moldovanul" as spelled above, but "Moldoveanu" and it is in Romania in the region historically known by the exonym Wallachia and the endonym Tara Romaneasca. On a different vein, I'd seriously suggest that you look for other places to look for information about Moldova.
